MArty Hinson

Gibson County Soil Conservation is proud to announce that Marty Hinson has been named a Soil Health Champion by the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD).

As a member of NACD’s Soil Health Champion Network, Hinson will raise awareness about the many benefits of soil health practices. Activities will include building peer-to-peer relationships, speaking and providing information at public events and serving as a voice for soil health in local, state and national media.

Marty is a farmer and Agricultural professional. She is the Farm Services Manager at Cannon Packaging, Humboldt, Tennessee. Marty promotes nutrient management and soil health in her position with Cannon. She farms with her husband, Barry Hinson, and her son, Sam Green. They farm near Trenton, Tennessee in Gibson County in the Brazil community ( unincorporated). Their operation is approximately 4,300 acres consisting of grain and fiber row crops. They produce corn, cotton, soybeans, grain sorghum (milo), and wheat.

“It is an honor to be chosen a national Soil Health Champion,” said Hinson. “Building soil health is essential if America is to meet the challenges of providing food, fuel and fiber for a growing population here and abroad.”

NACD is the nonprofit organization that represents America’s 3,000 conservation districts and the 17,000 men and women who serve on their governing boards, along with their state associations. Its national soil health campaign is intended to raise awareness about and adoption of soil health systems. For more information on NACD and the Soil Health Champions Network, visit www.nacdnet.org.
